Education
Like his parents, he attended Oxford University and studied mathematics and physics. His father had hoped for him to go into medicine, and Hawking would have certainly being capable of pursuing the medical avenue. Although he put little time in his studies, he graduated with honors in 1962 and went on to earn his Ph.D. in cosmology from University of Cambridge. This is yet another example of his giftedness. He exerted little effort into his studies whereas his peers would have had to work hard to accomplish the same. It is amazing that he graduated with honors and did not even try to accomplish this. Obviously, things came very easy to Hawkings.
Stephen Hawking has an extensive list of accomplishments and contributions that demonstrate his giftedness. Although he is mostly known for his work on black holes and his publications, he also taught at Cambridge University where he served as the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. This position at the university has only been held by 14 other people since 1663, including Sir Isaac Newton.
